Match Report 1: Monday 28th April 2003
Dublin Bay Packers V Bray Allsorts 2000 in Wanderers RFC, Merrion Road,
Ballsbridge, Dublin 4
A new young player (good to see those around) called Simon lead off the Bray assault with an excellent double hit that turned into a 4 base hit after a few errors by the Packers. Bray were on their way 1-0. Carmel, Ashley and Barry were all put out with ease and iot looked like the stronger team in the early stages was going to be the Packers. This was proved correct when they batted with Mike leading the way with a home run followed by singles from Belinda, Michael, Paddy and Adele. Charlie followed them all with a massive home run to bring a total of 8 runs. The Packers were in command...
Bray failed to score in next inning and Packers brought in another 3 with Damien making a double with an excellent slide to 2 to boot. Simon from Bray responded with a good single and he managed to get an RBI. The score was no 2 to 11. Surely no way back for Bray. At the top of the 3rd Bray started to come back into the game with good hits from Simon (again), Barry with a home run and a huge hit from Carmel they dragged the score back to 8-11.
Over the course of the game there were a number of errors on both sides with the Packers benefiting most. Running the bases more aggressively and slightly better strategic hitting proved to be their strong point and the end of the game with the rain starting to come down at a more uncomfortable level, their superior batting proved to be the decider in this excellent game. After trading runs with the Bray Allsorts team over the 5th, 6th and 7th inning, the Packers managed to gain a 3 run lead to finally win out with a score of 18 to 15.
Man of the Match: Simon from Bray Allsorts 2000. A new young player with great batting skills and excellent base running.
